This activity could be easily completed in your own local environment. For us a walk to Queen's Drive was a suitable route.
The class went outside to continue their learning of Data Handling, in particular Tally Charts. The pupils created their own Tally Chart (see attached document) about the amount of different vehicles that passed along Queen's Drive over a certain time period.
We took this learning back to class and created Bar Graphs from the Tally Charts.
This learning could be extended by comparing the amount of traffic at different parts of the day, e.g. were there more cars from 0850 - 0900 or from 0900 - 0910? Discussions about pollution and climate change could be introduced, especially if there are less bikes than cars.
There are toilets at the Ranger Station. The Education Centre can be used at the Ranger Station but they request a 4 week notice period.
