To reinforce revision of multiplication at first level we used natural materials found in our school grounds to create arrays. The children worked in pairs , I used mixed ability to allow access to activity by all. Each pair would choose a multiplication card from a pot, then they collected items and laid them out on white boards. The children could self assess by looking at a dot array on back of card. Once one had been completed they could swap for another card. This provided lots of discussion about the layout of arrays and reinforced multiplication as repeated addition.
