    Description

The learning intention for this activity was to learn the names of the bones in the human body and create this using natural materials as part of a team
    The success criteria was:
to use materials found on the ground (sticks, stones, leaves etc)
to think about the size of each bone in relation to the other bones so that the skeleton was created in proportion
to work with the rest of the group to create the skelton
    to listen to others sensitively
to support all group members to participate

We have been looking at the human body this session and in order to familiarise the children with the skeleton I wanted them to create it using natural materials. The children were provided with a diagram of the skeleton and I taught them a poem with actions to help them remember the names (document provided).
We talked about the relative sizes and positions of these bones before leaving the classroom.
Corstorphine Hill is the perfect spot for doing this as we were able to scavenge for the materials we needed and then could use the slope of the hill to layout the skeleton.
Each team had to work together to get the materials and then lay them out.
Groups could 'challenge' each other if they thought the bones were out of proportion and the children had to justify their choice or adjust them accordingly.
