DESCRIPTION

This story-led series, following the giant Hamish, takes the MNU 1-11a numeracy outcome outdoors. Over five lessons, learners progress from using non-standard units (footsteps) to accurate measurement with metre sticks and rulers, applying their skills in context through hands-on activities such as a stick hunt, building a miniature shelter to a design brief, and creating and following a map. The outdoor environment provides authentic challenges and natural materials, while the narrative context maintains engagement and purpose for First Level learners in a life skills setting.
